Took a quick break from coloring the comic that ended up being much longer than I wanted it to be. BUT HEY, AT LEAST I FINALLY GOT THIS SHIT OUT OF MY SYSTEM.

The Man on The Moon, By me!
FINALLY did a quick character height chart for the main cast. Only one twin here because they are very nearly the same height.
Aaron: 5’11-6 ft
Neil (divine body): 4’10
Ok. I’m tired of the typical vampire, werewolf and fairy.I’m also tired of the occidental-centrism in mythology. Hence, this list.
I tried to included as many cultural variants as I could find and think of. (Unfortunately, I was restricted by language. Some Russian creatures…
I think that the Coastal Southern Californian Fruit Bat Vampire needs more representation on this list.
Time to talk about favorite panels and whatnot. This page is kind of a mess? but also kind of neat? I’m pretty happy with most of it, but what I really want to talk about is speech bubbles. See, since the very beginning of the comic, the color coded speech bubbles has been something I have been very proud and/or excited about? One of the very first concepts I worked out about the series was how much a magical girl’s normal and “divine” bodies would differ. Things like height, weight, number of piercings/appearance or disappearance of tattoos. Shiny, anime protagonist hair is also a must. But I really wanted a way to show the differences in the magical girl’s voice, as well as in the voices of the numerous characters. Neil is always portrayed with grey speech bubbles because of how flat and expressionless his voice is, but that all goes away in the divine body. After all, it’s a completely different set of vocal chords he’s working with, not to mention the fact that we’re adhering to the mahou shoujo tropes here. The other members of his family that inherited divine bodies (and may or may not end up showing up in the comic) also experience a change in vocal tone when in magical girl form, but of course it’s nowhere near as drastic as the change Neil experiences, for obvious reasons.
I contemplated leaving this panel devoid of speech bubbles. I wasn’t entirely sure whether or not it would work better with total silence or with Neil trying to get his two cents in, but instead just sort of emitting some sort of terrified yelp. In the end I decided to add the speech bubble, just because I’ve been WAITING TO SHOW OFF HOW HIS VOICE WOULD CHANGE COLOR FOR A YEAR AND A HALF.
Gotta get that gratification in there somewhere you know?
